When I step into a bedroom, I can immediately sense the design—an unmistakable assembly of threads that reflect a person’s aesthetics and the very essence of their being. Bedrooms are not just spaces that have real styles; they’re spaces that real people truly inhabit, and the ways and pathos of their inhabitation have real effects—on the inhabitants, of course, but potentially also on you and me.

And since we share this planet with 8 billion people, there are potentially about 8 billion ways to style a bedroom.

The 26 Best Bedroom Styles

1. Modern Minimalist Bedroom

1. Modern Minimalist Bedroom

Today’s minimalist bedroom is a step toward modern elegance and simplicity. It has a very “clean” step with its neat, straight, and uninterrupted lines.

But there is a step beyond that, which is the “functionality step.” A place is for everything; and everything, not much at all, is in its place. The interior of a minimalist bedroom is very much like its exterior.

Both are uncluttered; both are not overstuffed with furnishings; both spaces make the most of peeking natural light; and both, super important, promote a step toward relaxation and a sense that nothing is being overdone in a world that often seems too demanding.

2. Scandinavian Bedroom Retreat

2. Scandinavian Bedroom Retreat

The Scandinavian bedroom retreat exudes minimalist elegance, with almost architectural lines, natural materials, and an unfussy neutral palette. It’s not about kitsch or cuteness; this retreat is serenely cozy, with elements that emphasize pure functionality and almost effortless simplicity.

If it weren’t for the cozy textiles and the ample natural light, you might think this space was just an artfully composed set. Instead, this room is a sanctuary, where aesthetics are perfectly balanced with the kind of atmosphere that promotes relaxation and sleep.

3. Rustic Farmhouse Bedroom

3. Rustic Farmhouse Bedroom

The Farmhouse Bedroom is an inviting, cozy space that lacks any kind of intimidation but still manages to exude warmth and charm. On one hand, it comes off as very rustic, with lots of natural materials and reclaimed wood.

But on the other hand, it isn’t old-fashioned, what with its modern proportions and comfy, vintage-y vibe. Indeed, this is the type of room in which you can easily imagine curling up to read, sleep, or otherwise just spend an afternoon.

4. Industrial Loft Bedroom

4. Industrial Loft Bedroom

The bedroom in an industrial loft is a cool space. It has high ceilings, large windows, and walls of exposed brick.

The style of the room incorporates very raw materials: metal, wood, and concrete. It’s the kind of space where you want to live if you like what is often called “rustic modern,” meaning you’re okay with a certain rough-hewn quality as long as there are elements of modern design.

The furniture in your hypothetical loft bedroom would probably be very minimalist. Colorwise, you’d stick with neutral tones.

5. Bohemian Dream Bedroom

5. Bohemian Dream Bedroom

The Bohemian Dream Bedroom style embraces an eclectic mix of colors, textures, and cultural influences, creating a carefree and artistic vibe. The layered textiles, like blankets, throws, and rugs, form the foundation for the “boho” look.

From there, it’s all about plants, furniture, decor, and art; the more, the better. You want to basically fill your space but in a way that still feels organic and not cramped.

And you want to be using stuff with history and a story to it.

6. Mid-Century Modern Bedroom

6. Mid-Century Modern Bedroom

A sleek, eternal, and aesthetic quality defines a Mid-Century Modern Bedroom. It comprises clean lines, organic curves, and functional design that embodies simplicity, minimalism, and muted colors while also being unique and eye-catching.

This timeless style is somewhat ubiquitous today and is more popular than ever. Mid-Century Modern emphasizes the use of natural materials while also being somewhat experimental in terms of shapes, designs, and colors.

Natural wood tones and retro geometric patterns abound in a style that is harmonious and fun.

7. Coastal Beach Bedroom

7. Coastal Beach Bedroom

The coastal beach bedroom style captures the essence of the seaside and translates it into your sleeping space. With its super soft color palette, the coastal beach bedroom style often employs muted ocean blues and sandy beiges intermingled with lots of whites.

The style makes abundant use of natural materials—think wood and rattan and lots of well-placed core-shell elements. Bedroom décor items are kept nice and simple under this style’s umbrella, which, in the end, promotes a true-to-family atmosphere.

8. Traditional Classic Bedroom

8. Traditional Classic Bedroom

An Elegant Classic Bedroom has a timeless quality that translates into elegance through its design elements. Rich wood furniture with intricate detailing, draperies and bedding of luxurious silk or velvet, and just the right amount of neutral colors mixed with soft, warm tones make this style attractive.

You would have to try very hard not to be charmed by the decor. Judging by appearances alone, this bedroom seems as if it has a near-constant state of quiet that it enjoys.

There’s nothing edgy or loud about it.

9. French Country Bedroom

9. French Country Bedroom

Rustic sophistication and charm define a French Country bedroom. This style is an unpretentious mix of the elements found in the simple yet alluring homes of the French countryside.

Colors are soft and muted, sometimes pastel-like; spaces are filled with natural materials, such as wood and stone. A rough-hewn beam across the ceiling may shelter an ordinary light fixture, yet the beam itself might have come from a 100-year-old barn.

The bed can be dressed with elegant linens and vintage quilts; the furniture could easily be the 18th-century kind painted by artists like Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin and his contemporary Claude Joseph Vernet.

10. Shabby Chic Bedroom

10. Shabby Chic Bedroom

The bedroom style of Shabby Chic encapsulates a very particular vintage aesthetic—one that is cozy and elegant, but not quite sophisticated. It revolves around distressed furniture, soft pastel colors, floral patterns, and what could be best described as an eclectic mix of antique and modern pieces.

Warm, inviting, and always a bit off-kilter, a Shabby Chic bedroom has a nostalgic, personal vibe that is hard to pin down and even harder to resist.

11. Contemporary Chic Bedroom

11. Contemporary Chic Bedroom

A bedroom that “contemporary chic” might describe brings together modern design and sophisticated elegance. The space has what might be called happily a minimalist approach: not too much detail; not too much color; just the right number of things to create an atmosphere of yet another kind of “refined” calm.

A sheer curtain offers a still life of shadows and light; a floor lamp, like a tall dracaena, holds forth the promise of illumination.

12. Eclectic Fusion Bedroom

12. Eclectic Fusion Bedroom

An Eclectic Fusion Bedroom combines a variety of styles, patterns, and cultures to form a unique, cohesive space. This form of design emphasizes personal aesthetics—blending vintage, modern, and worldwide elements in a way that highlights textures, colors, and materials.

More than just special tools of the trade, these elements are critical to the bedroom’s design, serving as the basic building blocks of an Eclectic Fusion space. After all, in addition to being the palatial resting place for the home’s inhabitants, this room must also encompass an unusual look that has the potential to captivate and enthrall.

13. Zen Tranquil Bedroom

13. Zen Tranquil Bedroom

The Zen Tranquil Bedroom style underscores understated elegance, inviting you into a space that soothes and calms. Using natural materials like wood and stone, the style channels a soft, neutral color palette that invites balance and harmony into the space.

Though it has little decor, what is present is intentional and encourages an unfocused eye, allowing dizziness to fade and the mind to center. By inviting open space into the bedroom, the style allows for both uncluttered surfaces and the opportunity to fill breath with peace and to exhale tension as the day and its demands slide away.

14. Hollywood Glam Bedroom

14. Hollywood Glam Bedroom

The Hollywood Glam Bedroom exudes elegance and luxury, characterized by plush fabrics, opulent textures, and metallic accents. This style melds timeless Hollywood beauty with modern refinement to craft the ultimate bedroom fantasy.

Mirrored furniture and the sleek, high-polished finishes of metals make these spaces shine. Pale pastels, deep jewel tones, and black create drama.

Art Deco motifs, not-so-subtle nods to luxury, and the over-the-top glamour that Vegas knows so well suffuse these bedrooms with a kind of sparkle that vanilla modernism just doesn’t have.

15. Art Deco Bedroom

15. Art Deco Bedroom

Elegance defines the Art Deco bedroom, thanks to designs that are sleek and stylish, materials that are luxurious and rich, and an overall aesthetic that is equal parts bold and beautiful. This bedroom style typifies all that was good and great about vintage glamour; furniture is as much a part of the decor as any exotic wood or streamlined shape might be.

Geometry is a big part of what makes Art Deco Art Deco. Whether it’s in the form of whole surfaces covered in bold, graphic patterns or the smaller scale accents that give shape and interest to furniture, decor that’s even halfway to being Art Deco is sure to be suffused with patterns that are, quite literally, to die for.

16. Vintage Retro Bedroom

16. Vintage Retro Bedroom

A Vintage Retro Bedroom is an enchanting space that melds together nostalgia and rustic charm while creating an inviting atmosphere. We vintage aficionados tend to be purists.

When claiming “vintage,” we demand that the use of our beloved pieces and the execution of the overall aesthetic be true to the era we’re celebrating. So the following rules (if you can call them that) and principles (ditto) are purists’ principles for turning a bedroom into a tempting time capsule—that is, into a haven that honors the bedside manner of bygone days.

17. Tropical Paradise Bedroom

17. Tropical Paradise Bedroom

The Tropical Paradise Bedroom is a serene escape inspired by lush, exotic locales. The colors and materials in this bedroom are vibrant and inspired by nature.

Shades of green and blue are everywhere you look, in the paint, the furnishings, and even the lighting. And where there is no color, like on the walls or ceiling, light is used to create a kind of natural “glo” that you might associate with being underwater or being in some other kind of secluded paradise.

18. Nautical Seaside Bedroom

18. Nautical Seaside Bedroom

A Nautical Seaside Bedroom captures the essence of coastal living with a serene and breezy ambiance. The design features an array of blues, whites, and sandy neurtals, with the (sometimes over-the-top) motifs of the sea and ocean frequently in view—anchors, shells, boats, beach umbrellas, and the like.

Those textures create an island/ seaside ambience that is as cool as a sea breeze and as warm as a sun-kissed day by the shore.

19. Romantic Elegance Bedroom

19. Romantic Elegance Bedroom

The Romantic Elegance Bedroom style embodies a serene escape with soft, muted color palettes, luxurious fabrics, and vintage furnishings. The essential components are lavishly designed illuminated fixtures like chandeliers and beautifully draped curtains and canopies.

The design of this bedroom celebrates eternal beauty, expressed in intricate details that foster a warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere. It is that kind of place where you can unwind, curl up with a good book, or cuddle with your significant other.

Classic details, like a fireplace with an ornate mantle, coexist beautifully with modern features, like the space’s comfy, upholstered bed.

20. Cottage Charm Bedroom

20. Cottage Charm Bedroom

The bedroom design of Cottage Charm offers an inviting blend of rustic elegance and cozy comfort. It is a quiet, warm space that features soft, muted colors, natural materials like wood and wicker, and plenty of floral patterns.

The Cottage Charm bedroom is simple, almost vintage, in its use of materials and accessories, but it hardly looks spare or unfinished. In fact, one could say its almost maximalist in the number and variety of accessories with which it comfortably and charmingly fills its nooks and crannies.

21. Urban Modern Bedroom

21. Urban Modern Bedroom

The Urban Modern Bedroom is a style that is comfortable, contemporary, and slick. It combines smooth lines and mild colors with minimalist furniture, often in a kind of suspension that borders on the surreal, and accented with punchy artwork or metallic elements that create a good amount of visual interest.

Its kind of calm beauty makes it perfect for modern city living with an emphasis on true functionality and true sophistication that makes anything but a boring urban retreat.

22. Asian Inspired Bedroom

22. Asian Inspired Bedroom

A bedroom inspired by Asia radiates tranquility and harmony and, like all good Asian design, is based on minimalist principles. This space might use bamboo and silk, not to mention dark woods, to deliver that.

Your Asian-inspired bedroom might employ any number of different colors as its dominant shade, but the calming hues of neutral, red, and gold paint a pretty good picture of what you might find in the Asian-inspired bedroom. Shoji screens, tatami mats, and other peaceful, serene, and culturally rich decorative accents might well serve as the backdrop for a Zen-like architectural statement.

23. Monochrome Chic Bedroom

23. Monochrome Chic Bedroom

A Monochrome Chic Bedroom is pared down to the essentials. There are mostly three colors: black, white, and gray.

What is seen easily, then, is the elegance of that color palette and the way it offers a serene background for the mostly sophisticated, contemporary decor. There is a look here that is absolutely not chaotic, which of course is a hallmark of elegance.

The layers of texture that both the decor and the furniture introduce into this space create a warmth that speaks to the comfort offered by this bedroom. There is nothing cold about it, even though the color palette is pristine.

24. Southwestern Desert Bedroom

24. Southwestern Desert Bedroom

The Southwest Desert bedroom style expresses a warm, earthy ambiance that embraces natural materials, all in the pursuit of replicating the tranquilest of desert getaways. My bedroom is much too small for the kind of furniture that takes up a vast amount of real estate in a room, which is why I favor pieces that either hug the walls or are easily movable.

When it comes to the bed itself, there are no shortage of minimalism nor layered looks to achieve a coziness. Indeed, the peace of the desert is as much in its sparse silhouette against the firmament as it is in the call of the coyote or the breath of the wind through the saguaro.

25. Hacienda Style Bedroom

25. Hacienda Style Bedroom

A Hacienda Style Bedroom exudes warmth and rustic charm, inspired by traditional Spanish estates. The furnishings are in rich wood, colors are earthy, and materials are well chosen.

Textured stucco walls are complemented by smooth walls in rich colors. The walls curve to meet the ceilings where wooden beams span the distance between wall and wall.

Iron accents, wrapped around columns, are seen or imagined in the many light fixtures illuminating the spaces between the large windows. “Comfortable” is what comes to mind as the eye travels across the room and settles on the fireplace—imagining flames licking up from the kindling placed there, heating up the colors and textures for the elfin ensemble that evening.

26. Mediterranean Villa Bedroom

26. Mediterranean Villa Bedroom

The Mediterranean Villa Bedroom style is a perfect combination of elegance and warmth, good looks and rustic charms. It takes its clues from the sun-baked, coastal regions of the Mediterranean, but is easily adaptable to any haven that needs a touch of warmth and sonorous good looks.

Textured walls in earthy tones, rich wood finishes, and Vibra-textiles take care of that. Timeless beauty and tranquility are its hallmarks.
